A few Kickstarter projects I’ve funded recently that I’m really excited about that I think you might be interested in too:
Any other great projects I should know about?
I’m pretty sure most people have seen this already, but the USDA retired the food pyramid earlier this week in favor of the food plate:
Just about everyone agrees the pyramid was complicated, and tried to get too many messages across at once — more dairy, less sweets, exercise, portion control, etc.
But the new symbol is simple — a plate divided into portions. And that’s a good thing, said First Lady Michelle Obama at the press conference today.
“Parents don’t have the time to measure out exactly three ounces of chicken or to look up how much rice or broccoli is in a serving,” she said.
You can get more information about the food plate on the NPR health blog, and on the USDA’s new website, ChooseMyPlate.gov.

Here’s a crazy, mind-blowing fact for you dinosaur fans out there:
The time difference between when Tyrannosaurus and Stegosaurus lived is greater than the time difference between Tyrannosaurus and now.
Silly Land Before Time movies, ruining my concept of prehistoric timelines. I always thought Spike and Sharptooth really did co-exist.

Plans for this weekend: catch up on much-needed sleep.
I’ve been going to bed early these past two weeks, but have been struggling to fall asleep before 2 or 3am every night. Seeing as how I’m awake by 5:30am every morning, that means I have a lot of sleep to catch up on.
This weekend, I’m not waking up until 8am at the earliest. That’s a promise I’m making myself.

Claudia Ficca and Davide Luciano have launched a photography project called Potholes:
After a sudden collision with a canyon sized crater of a pothole we decided to channel our frustration into a positive project where the useless pothole would be a source of humor and creativity.
Lots of fun, whimsical photos from potholes in Montreal, Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles in the collection.
