I go to the gym four mornings a week. (Recently, that’s gone down to three, but I’ll be back up to four this week, promise.) This morning, I decided to forgo my usual gym session and go for a run down the banks of the Potomac. At 5:30am, there are very few people out, and the run was serene, and beautiful, and calming — particularly necessary after an extremely stressful week.
I enjoyed the run, but it did teach me one thing: I’m not cut out for running. It’s pretty obvious that I’m on the heavy side, so that’s a first reason why I’m just naturally better at doing things like lifting weights than running. On top of that, having two severely-injured knees makes it a bit tough to take that kind of impact. On the treadmill, it’s okay, but on an uneven and hilly terrain like the banks of the river, my knees take a real beating. I’m going to be spending the rest of the day in pain to recover.
But that’s okay. I enjoyed the morning run, just like I enjoyed the video above from Nike called Onwards. I hope you enjoy your Monday, whether you’re running to work or running to school or running from something or the other.
