I’ll admit it, there have been times where I have been very ready to declare email bankruptcy. As someone that gets over 300 emails a day (not counting spam or forwards), it is easy to get swamped with email that you just can’t humanly answer or action.
In my moments of weakness where I am staring at an inbox of over 1,500 emails for the week, I have learned to scan and sort very quickly. These days, I try and scan and sort at least three or four times a day so that nothing builds up. By scanning and sorting, I am able to manage my email — sadly, I don’t really respond as quickly as I would like, but I still don’t feel overwhelmed.
If you’re thinking of declaring email bankruptcy, just think about your email process, and perhaps you can work your way out of it, slowly and surely.
