There’s a beauty to terraces that often goes ignored.
Terraces offer a liminal space between the indoors and the outdoors, the room and the street. Unlike balconies and porches that are clearly an “outdoor” part of a home, the terrace is an extension of the indoors that just barely crosses the boundary. They offer a temporary and fleeting escape from the room, a glimpse (but not immersion) into the bustle of the world that is normally hidden when we are inside four walls.
The most beautiful part of a terrace, however, is rolling over in bed in the morning to look out the window and find someone you love standing there, peering over the railing, wind rushing through her hair as she soaks in the sounds of the city.
