Cameron Hunt has written a great article dispelling the surprisingly-common notion that tumblelogging is blogging. Like Cameron, I’m a heavy user of Twitter, which constrains me to a 140-character limit and can easily be defined as micro-blogging. Tumblelogging, however, has no such constraints, can even be considered the anti-thesis of micro-blogging. Instead of being defined by constraints, tumblelogs are instead defined by their flexibility in length, format, style, and approach.
From Cameron’s article:
“In some ways, noted bloggers Jason Kottke and John Gruber have tumblelogs; they both mix in different formats for different types of posts. Are you seriously going to call Kottke.org and Daring Fireball “micro”?”
Well said Cameron. Well said.
