This makes photo (via) makes me smile, not because I love the rainbow effect, but because I used to have a friend that arranged everything by color. While some of us sorted our DVD collection and bookshelves by genre or author name, she would painstakingly sort everything she owned — clothes in her closet, spices in her kitchen, socks in her drawer, everything — by color.

She was specific too: she also looked at gradations in the color and sorted based on hue and tone and intensity. A lot of us thought she was mildly obsessive-compulsive or craved order a bit too much, until one day she admitted to me:

“Vasta, I don’t do this because I have a compulsion for order. I do it because I get inspired by rainbows.”

This made me smile, especially knowing that she, in all her generosity and kindness, was the pot of gold at the end of every rainbow in her apartment.
