Scenes From a Commute

I’ve been a big fan of Meg Pickard’s writing for a long time. Today’s post, Scenes From a Commute, is a perfect example of Meg’s mastery with the language.

In the post, she writes short descriptions of things she was able to see the top of the bus on her morning commute. One example:

A couple wearing suits, canoodling hungrily within the dark cave of a speeding cab on Waterloo Bridge. He holds her face tenderly as he laps at her upturned mouth; her fingers splay on his pinstriped knee; a phone sits on the seat behind the distracted flap of her sensible skirt.

Every single one of these short snippets is evocative enough to tell a wonderful story.

If you’re not reading Meg’s blog just yet, I’d recommend that you subscribe. Her tumblr’s pretty awesome too.
