Some thoughts on last night: Favorite dress of the night? Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab. Not just because I adore Rachel McAdams, but because she looks like a stunning watercolor painting. Beautiful. I may be the only one in the world that did, but the dance numbers during the Original Score nominations were amazing. And I’m SO HAPPY that Up won in that category, especially since it was shut out of the Best Picture win. (Yes, Up was the best movie of the year. I’ll defend that to the death.) Best speech of the night? Stanley Tucci talking about Meryl Streep. I feel bad for Adam Shankman. I really like him as a person, and think he’s a great entertainer, but he’s going to get skewered for this show, especially after the serious lack of chemistry between Baldwin and Martin. Robbed: Up (Picture, Original Screenplay), Carey Mulligan (Actress), The White Ribbon (Foreign Language, Cinematography), An Education (Adapted Screenplay). Can someone please make an Academy Awards night that stays under 3 hours? Please, I need my beauty sleep.
