It’s no secret that I love typewriters, I own four of them (three of them functional) and use them occasionally. There’s a certain beauty in the clacking of the keys, the mono-spaced characters, the feel of the carriage return lever.
My favorite part of a typewriter? The ribbon and the ribbon spool. I could watch the typebars bang against the ribbon to create words all day.
These days, typewriter ribbon is packaged in plastic cases with uninspired design and a lack of vibrancy. Not so long ago, ribbon packaging was as beautiful as the love letters that came out of the typewriters, full of character, life, and care.
