Is this the worst photograph ever? (via)
Mike argues that it is:
This picture as a whole has absolutely zero connection to reality or honest depiction, but is unredeemed by any countervailing expressive or artistic purpose.
I’ll admit that the photo is bad, but I’m not sure I’m ready to call it the worst ever. What’s really upsetting is that the photo was taken by Annie Leibovitz, who has long been one of my favorite photographers. I’ve noticed, however, a trend by Annie and other pro photographers these days to try and emphasize the digital processing of the photo over the craftsmanship of the shot itself. I wonder what caused this trend? Is there any chance of it reversing? And can Annie Leibovitz get back to being the amazing photographer she once was?
