Thank you to kaytee for sharing this story.
When I was in Kindergarten, 6 years old, we voted in the mock election. The choices were George Bush and Bill Clinton. When it was my turn to vote, I went up to the computer on the stage and looked up at my teacher, puzzled.
“I don’t know who I am supposed to vote for.”
Katie, you can vote for whomever you choose,” she replied.
Sixteen years later, November 4, 2008, I returned to that same elementary school to cast my vote for president. Tears poured down my face as I marked my ballot and remembered what my teacher had told me.
Today, as I start my last year of school, I could not be more proud of the person who got my vote.
